"You Should Go Join a Circus!" (Bloggy Giveaway Post)

This Bloggy Giveaway is now closed.
Thanks for stopping by,
I'll be announcing the winner shortly!

That there
is verbatim what Mr. J. said to me last night after I showed him this:

Yes, I can walk like that too.

You may not realize this, but I have lived all 29 years of my life thinking that EVERYBODY could do that with their toes? My response to him was "Hey, at least you'll still be walking on your own feet when you're 70 instead of needing to be pushed in a wheel chair because your feet are so crippled from rheumatoid arthritis!"

I am rather double-jointed, it's true. I'm no contortionist, but I can do a couple of neat party tricks, I guess.

I can also do this:

and this (which I think is less unusual):
Anyway, you know it's time for the summer edition of the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival and my fingers are ready for typing copious amounts of entries. Last time, I won two giveaways and let's face it, to quell the tedium of hot summer days, there are few things more exciting than winning a contest! So in honour of it being summer and it being - for most of us - hot outside, I present you with The Prize:

And I say: Nevermind snowcones - break out the margarita glasses, my friends!

Now you know there's no way I'm going to just give away a prize without making you work for it. After all, the most satisfying rewards are the ones you have to work for - or something like that, so, if you'd like to enter for a chance to win this drool-inducing machine, tell me something unique or unusual about yourself. Have you got a 'party trick'? If so, what is it?

"Official Rules":
1. This giveaway is open to anybody with a US or Canadian mailing address. You don't have to be a blogger, but you must leave me a way to contact you if you win.

2. The contest closes at noon on Saturday, 2 August. The winner will be notified on Saturday evening and you only have until Tuesday night to get back to me. We are going on holidays at the end of next week and I'd like to have the prize in the mail before we go.

3. Only one entry per person please, UNLESS you are one of my regular readers.*

For more contests, click the picture.

*This means you - Beck, Beth, Brenda, EG, Erin K., Jenn, Jess, Jodie, Kellan, MinnesotaMom, NoMotherEarth and RA. (Just leave three separate comments, okay?)

Beck said...

I am TOTALLY going to leave three comments because we ABSOLUTELY need that. We are spending a FORTUNE on slushies this summer.
(Capitalization! I love it.)
And I'm glad to be regular. AW.

Jen said...

My kids would love this!

EG said...

Regular Reader comment #1: the first flavor I will try will be coconut with my sugar-free Torani syrup

EG said...

Regular Reader comment #2: Why is it that using my work computer I can sometimes see the links to the Bloggy Giveaway contests and sometimes I can't? Makes my time-wasting less convenient.

EG said...

Regular Reader Comment #3: Although my child is now married to the Blog nickname "Little Man," if we have any other children I will come up with a more clever nickname in honor of great nicknames like "The Little Goat."

Ewww, I'm kind of freaked out at your bendy-ness. But also intrigued. Hmmmm...i have to think about something unusual about myself.

Dave said...

I wonder if who would use this more? The kids, or myself...

Kristin said...

The only thing "unusual" about me is that I have made 9 babies and am working on #10.

Beck said...

Oh! My "Party Trick" is drinking too much. Something about the conivial, jolly atmosphere of a party makes me drink and drink and drink.
Not very impressive, is it?

Beck said...

And for my third empty, I will just ramble on in this space. Now send me the snow cone maker! My kids are driving me nuts!

Katrina said...

I would love to win this. I honetly don't think I can do much of anything as cool as you. Though I think I can to the finger thing you do in the second picture. =)

soha said...

I can roll my tongue

Spookygirl said...

I can dislocate my shoulder and bend my knees somewhat backwards :P

erin k said...

I can do the same finger thing-y (I remember perfecting it during school hours in about grade 4)

erin k said...

Not that I ever GO to parties, but if I did, I would impress the crowd with my ability to remember the lyrics to most show tunes.

erin k said...

Once, in a talent show, (along with four friends) I did an AWESOME lip-sinc/choreography to "Stop Right Now, Thank you very much" by the Spice Girls. I was Posh Spice. I'm pretty sure it's what made the Music Man fall in love with me.

(ps I REALLY want a snow-cone maker. More than Beck even. :) )

Estelle said...

I can turn up the bottom of my eyelids so they're inside out. Okay, so it's not that unusual, and the only people who'd want to see that party trick are 6 year old little boys, but it's all I've got. Hey, I guess I'm more normal than I thought! Thanks for the giveaway!

Cristina said...

Not all that interesting but... I love chocolate, I can eat it 24/7, but the smell of artificial chocolate (as in lipgloss, or powdered drinks) make me sick to my stomach.

Beth said...

Here's my first commment. And my party trick will come soon....

Beth said...

I used to be able to do this but haven't tried for a while.....

Beth said...

I used to be able to pop my shoulder out of the socket - and loved to gross out my little brother with this trick :)

I don't have any party tricks, but I do have about the loudest laugh every where we go so I always get stares when I laugh, which is pretty frequent!

Deb said...

The only party trick I can do is tie a cherry stem with my tongue....but that is so old....I guess I just don't party as much as I used to! Anyhow, would love to win the snowcone/slushie maker!

Unknown said...

I can touch my thumb to my wrist and touch my pointer finger and pinkie finger together. I can also drumb my toes. Drove my Mom crazy with that one growing up.

Wendy said...

I also can stand on my toes like you!

Cheryl said...

You have an amazing talent! :) Love the snow cone maker. It's hot in AZ!

Anonymous said...

I can squat all the way down (butt touching back of ankles) without lifting my heels from the floor. (Go ahead, try it!) I can also roll my eyes - no, not like someone saying, "Oh, brother!" but like, I can actually TWIRL them, really, really fast. (It freaks people out when they see it!) If that's not worth a margarita make---I mean, a snowcone maker, what isn't? :)

Leigh of Tales from Bloggeritaville said...

tongue tricks. Its a riot at parties. Honestly my tongue is double jointed....

Crunchy Green Mom - Suzanne said...

My unusual thing? Hmmm... Hmmm... I will have to say, my bird whistles. I love talking to my doves

Annie1 said...

Well, I used to smoke (I know ugg, yuk, gag) but I quit for good over 5 years ago!! Yay

My party trick, when I used to go to parties was the skill of blowing smoke rings! This is sad but true, my grandmother taught me how to blow smoke rings by tapping on my cheeks when I was 12.

This isn't really a trick, but people are very interested in my piercings, especially the 14 in my ears, the one in my nose and the one in my chin. They are always a topic of conversation wherever I go!!

Great giveaway btw lol, I got all caught up in the subject

michelle said...

I can stretch my fingers out and then just bend the very tips of my fingers at the last joints and hold them that way. I also have double jointed thumbs, which allows me to bend them in towards the palm of my hand in a weird way.

I can do that thing with the thumb, too. Until this very minute, I didn't think it was anything unusual.

Not sure I would call this any sort of party trick but I can bend all of my fingers to almost a 90 degree angle while the rest of my finger is completely straight. It doesn't look very pretty but it's all I've got. Would love to win this for my boys!!

This year I'm making him a wizard. I have the long gray wig and beard. I have made a hat and cape. He won the holiday one last year. I made him a gingerbread dog contume. We love snowcones, thank you for the chance to win.

What a bunch of freaks...:)

I have no party tricks. But like Erin, I can recite EVERY showtune known to man as well as recall an entire movie or tv show's dialogue. I memorize like a freak. Must come from when I was in theatre and speech and debate. And I can identify people's voices (like on a commercial or voiceover) usually 100 percent every time. It drives the stupid people around m crazy.e

Hope I win, my little boy would just flip out over a sno cone machine in his house!

When I was pregnant the only way I could get rid of heartburn was to eat nachos with jaleopenos.

What a fun give-away Bren and you and your feet should definitely join a circus - that is crazy cool!

The only thing I can think of is that I have 3 missing ribs on my right side and I have often showed people and let them feel my ribs to prove it. What is odd is that my aunt (my mother's sister) has 2 floating ribs in her back and we have often said that she got 2 of mine.

Have fun - hope I win - we could use that cool machine here in TEXAS - but, I won't win - I never win - *sob*

I have a large scar on the side of my neck that looks just like a Nike swoosh. I used to be embarrassed by it and refused to wear my hair up. Now that I'm older it no longer bothers me.

Once I start laughing, I truly can't stop for like 5 minutes. It's kind of contagious.

Party trick, huh? Well. . .I can roll my tongue--does that count? :)

I can wiggle just my pinky toes without moving the other ones. My kids would be very happy if I won this! Thanks for the contest.

I can flip my tongue almost completely upside down. not that creative, I know.

Those are some neat tricks! Mine aren't as cool as yours... I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue. Thanks for the slushie giveaway!

Hmmm...I'm not sure if I can do any tricks but here is something unique about me
I spent 8 months living and working abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland as a NICU nurse. I got pregnant while over there but came home to have our son here...
LOVE your giveaway!!! It's one of the most fun I've seen!

no party tricks here but I was almost born on a trans-Pacific flight from Japan (Mom's passport is stamped the morning of my birth)

Hey my thumb looks like that. Lets see I used to be able to put both legs behind my head and stand on my hands. And put arms through legs and head up through the back. Now though...I can pop my arm out of the socket and back in easily.
The kids have been bugging me for a snow cone maker.

when I get excited my one eyebrow raises. i don't really know it at all and i can't even tell you which one it is, since i am rarely excited when looking in the mirror. my 2 month old daughter apparently has inherited this strange trait.

Love slushies! I would say the strangest thing(s) about me is that I cannot stand the feel of a koosh ball, do not like the smell of pop corn (gag) and won't let hubby use the broiler because I'm so paranoid it will start a fire ROFL.

I have this interesting thing I can do with my thumb. I can kind push it back and down (on its own) and lock it into place. And it looks like a weird upside down 'L' sticking out of my hand. Yes I know...very weird. You'd have to see it to totally understand what I mean. People tell me it is bizarre. Thanks for sharing your interestingness with us as well. And...that you for offering this wonderful prize! This would be a great way to cool down this summer.

Glad I stumbled onto your blog- not sure if this counts as a party trick but if I don't think about it my elbows turn inwards. Mini diva's do the same thing cuz we are double jointed there.
Great prize, thanks.

Unique? Unusual? I don't know...

I can touch my nose with my tongue. I married my high school sweetheart at the age of 33! My daughter and stepdaughter are cousins...

Thank you for hosting this giveaway.

I can walk on my toes like you can; people find that SO weird. I can also sit flat on the floor, with my legs straight, so that my heels are flat against the floor and my toes are pointing up. Then, I bend my toes down and touch the floor with them, without moving my heels. This completely grosses my kids out; it looks like my feet are broken in half. EW! lol Thanks for the great contest. :)

I can lay my arm flat on a table and rotate my elbow from the front to the back and back again without turning my wrist. It looks like I'm making my elbow go upside down.

I can also make only one eyeball move at a time from side to side while the other stays stationary. Scary huh? lol

I don't really have a great party trick anymore. I used to be able to do a backbend, but that isn't too impressive. I can fold an origami dove. I can compose haiku poems quickly. I teach high school english. That is usually pretty impressive :)

I wouldn't say I have any "party tricks," but something unique about me is that I was a Girl Scout for 13 years. I know my cookies.

My only party trick is not photographable. Does it count still? I do a mean Exorcist voice. No really. It's pretty good.

This isn't something unusual I do, but people think it's weird that I don't like to pop my bones and I can't listen to other people pop theirs.

Yay for snowcones!!

Ok, if we're talking unusual physical abilities then I can move my eyes back and forth at a rapid fire rate and it looks crazy. It usually gives me an instant headache to do it though and now I have one since I was just checking to make sure I've still got skillz.

My party trick would be... saying grace in Hebrew. It always shocks people when I volunteer to pray and belt it out in Hebrew when they are least expecting it.

I am, after all, an American-Hispanic protestant woman! Go figure!
